1) Corporate Governance Issues;

2) Pro’s / Con’s of Serving on Boards, both Public and Private;

3) Demands of Such a Role.

He will discuss his transition from a CEO role at PIMCO to a Director role at Citigroup and offer his perspective on today's economic environment and the strategies being employed to manage it.

Bill Thompson joined PIMCO in April, 1993, when the firm had $40 billion in assets under management.  Today, PIMCO has become widely recognized as the world’s leading fixed income investment management company, managing more than $850 billion in fixed income assets for governments, foundations, institutions, and individuals around the globe. Founded more than 30 years ago in Newport Beach, California, the business now employs approximately 1000 people and extends around the world with locations in London, Hong Kong, Munich, New York, Singapore, Sydney, Toronto and Tokyo. 

Prior to joining PIMCO Bill served an 18 year career with Salomon Brothers in Chicago, San Francisco and Japan. He was Chairman of Salomon Brothers Asia Ltd. in Tokyo where he headed a staff of 750 in seven countries from Korea to Australia.  Previously, he was responsible for corporate finance in the firm's San Francisco Regional Office and for management of all Salomon institutional sales throughout the 11 Western states.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Bill graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1968 with a BS in Civil Engineering and from Harvard Business School in 1970 with an MBA.  Bill serves as a Director of Citigroup and Pacific Life. He is also active in the community and recently completed a 3-year term as Chairman of the Hoag Hospital Foundation.  In addition, he supports numerous other community groups including the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, the United Way, Orange County Community Foundation and Orangewood Children’s Home.

In 2005 Bill and his wife, Nancy, founded the Thompson Center for Autism at the University of Missouri which delivers research, education and clinical services to children and families in the field of autism.
